Roque Nublo
This exceptional natural element, iconic of the landscape of the island, is part of the remains of ancient volcanic material that formed the central structure of the island, later shaped by an intense series of subsequent erosive processes, giving rise to this unique geological feature. It is also a landmark which is charged with symbolism for the population of the island and an important part of the legacy of the ancient Canary Islanders.
The most southerly rise of the full moon possible at major luna standstill is visible from the Almogarén del Roque Bentayga as it rises above the Roque Nublo. It is therefore important to highlight the presence of another small almogarén at the base of the monolith, which would also make the place sacred.
